The Difference Between Organic Farming and Conventional Farming

Organic farming is a way of farming that follows principles in place since 1955. This set of principles include the removal of pesticides, chemicals and genetically modified organisms, while conventional farming is often known as synthetic. Another big difference is the use of genetically modified organisms which allows farmers to become more efficient with their work. Organic food, on the other hand, only includes foods that are grown without pesticides and can’t have antibiotics and other chemicals used in their process.

Organic products are grown without the use of pesticides and other chemical fertilizers, which makes them healthier and safer to consume. Organic food also doesn’t contain labels like ‘Natural’. What is the difference between Natural vs. Organic? The main difference is that natural foods aren’t genetically modified while organic foods are, according to the USDA’s website

Organic Certification

The meaning of “organic” is uncertain because there is no legislation that has standardized or specified what “organic” means in the United States. Some organizations, like USDA, define “organic” to mean that the food contained within meeting both U.S. Department Organic regulations and European Union standards, such as low use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides; the exclusion of certification from a non-governmental body and certain secrecy tag(s) which must be on products containing some amount of organic ingredients; having soil supplemented with manure, compost, crop rotations, and/or green shrubs in plots located nearby; prohibiting livestock feed containing GMO products; and/or not using sewage sludge for fertilizing crops. Other organizations define “organic” as certified to meet criteria defined by the USDA National Organic Program. 

Organic certification typically has an expiration date allowing for traceability or a limit on where fruits and vegetables can be sold so they don’t travel long distances before they are processed into packaged foods at higher temperatures with chemicals. No matter how the word “organically grown” is defined in American English, it most certainly refers to a food’s propensity not to contaminate another surface or organism without causing harm.

Choosing a Natural Diet Vs. A Healthy Pure Diet

A pure diet means that all of your food comes from a reliable, established source. This can be anything from a farmer, who is currently working their own land to provide what they need in the current season, to someone who is importing food from overseas. By contrast, an organic diet means that none of the food has been genetically modified or treated with toxic chemicals throughout its lifecycle. What’s more, significant genetic modification was intentionally omitted and maintain the purity of all different varieties of the species. As a result, some organic foods are raised with an added measure of fertilizer and pesticides to fight off pests and natural diseases like mold, rather than using chemicals normally.


Organic food is produced in an organic that uses minimal and natural materials or in an environment where organic processes are followed. This type of food is usually healthier for the eater because it contains no artificial ingredients, and often has lower pesticide levels. In contrast, natural foods could be produced with any type of farming methods. For example, sugar cane is a natural ingredient in Coca-Cola. Therefore, the level of quality varies depending on how pure the ways that the food was made
